When searching for a local restaurant that will offer illusion of dining at a secluded spot outside of Manhattan, look no further than Finestra Restaurant, located on the quaint corner of York Avenue and 73rd Street. Warmly decorated with exposed brick walls and candle-lit tables, this eatery is a top choice for many locals who were lucky enough to discover this secret early on.
Owner Roger Ribeiro has created an atmosphere which has quickly become a favorite of those that frequent Sotheby’s grand auctions (which is one block over), as well as many of the well respected doctors and staff at nearby New York Hospital. Many other “neighborhood notables” escape to Finestra to get away from the otherwise hectic city life. Even dining on the quiet outdoor deck during the warmer months enable quest to enjoy the serenity that is offered.
Executive Chef Emanuel Sinchi, trained in Northern Italy and France, has created an original menu that boast a wide variety of flavors. Try his Puree of Wild Mushroom Soup with zucchini and carrots to start. A wonderful Lamb Shank, prepared with herbs and port wine is served with spinach risotto. For the more adventurous, skewers of Monk fish wrapped in prosciutto will surely entice. A large dessert menu, complete with pictures to tempt all taste buds, presents guest with their choice of numerous homemade cakes and other delights. To keep with current dietary trends, a low-carb menu is also offered.
Live music Wednesday and Friday evenings with classical guitar playing a large variety of music.
On Friday nights "spoken poetry" is ad to the ambiance of dining. Finestra Restaurant will be sure to please all those looking for that perfect escape to Italy.
